Totally cystic schwannoma of the tenth cranial nerve mimicking an epidermoid.

چکیده
Schwannomas are usually characterized by a mass that displays rapid and intense contrast enhancement on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Although some cases are associated with cyst formation, a solid component is nearly always visualized. Schwannomas can be associated with any nerve. Schwannomas of the ninth, 1Oth, and 11th cranial nerves, also called neurinomas of the jugular foramen nerves, however, are very rare compared with the common eighth cranial nerve schwannomas (acoustic neuromas) (1-3) . In the literature, these cases are typified by widening of the affected jugular foramen (4), although this feature is absent in purely intracisternal cases. We present a case of a totally cystic schwannoma of the tenth cranial nerve, in which the MR appearance markedly resembled that of an epidermoid.

Ancient Schwannoma of the Trigeminal Nerve Mimicking High Grade Lesion
Ancient schwannomas rarely found in the central nervous system and ancient change in an intracranial schwannoma (intracranial portion of the trigeminal nerve) is extremely rare. A seventy-year man presented with headache of 3 months duration and one episode of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Imaging findings were suggestive of left temporal high grade lesion. During surgery there was well...
متن کاملA Case of Vulvar Schwannoma Mimicking Epidermoid Cyst
Schwannoma is a generally benign tumor of the peripheral nerve sheath arising from Schwann cells. Most schwannomas are found on the head and neck. Here, we describe a rare case of benign vulvar schwannoma located at the labium majus which was similar to an epidermoid cyst in clinical appearance.
متن کاملMetastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Mimicking Trigeminal Schwannoma in a Patient Presenting with Trigeminal Neuralgia
We present an unusual case of a metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) mimicking trigeminal schwannoma. The patient, with no prior history of RCC, presented with clinical symptoms and imaging consistent with trigeminal neuralgia secondary to trigeminal schwannoma. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed a large bilobed cystic/solid mass primarily in the cerebellopontine angle cistern, wit...
متن کاملTotally cystic intradural extramedullary schwannoma.
Totally cystic intradural extramedullary lesions are uncommon and form a different spectrum of conditions as compared to the commonly seen intradural extramedullary tumors. Spinal schwannomas are benign tumors arising from spinal nerve root sheaths and are the most common intradural extramedullary spinal tumors. Though cystic changes in schwannomas are well described, most spinal schwannomas ar...
متن کاملCystic olfactory groove schwannoma.
Intracranial schwannoma not related to cranial nerves are unusual and rarely found in the subfrontal region. We report a case of cystic olfactory groove schwannoma in a 55-year- old male, who presented with late onset seizure without raised intracranial pressure. The tumor was excised completely.
